John Grosseto:
Hi Jim,
My love affair with Sevens, both Lotus and Caterham started in 1968 with a phone call from a friend.
Seems he bought a Lotus 7 in New Jersey and wanted help getting it to Long Island which involved crossing 4 boroughs, 2 bridges and all the while being surrounded by behemoth-size cars that no doubt never saw us in their mirrors.
I took photos of that car and it was pinned to all my garage walls from that day until 1991 when I took a trip from Hawaii (where I lived) to Massachusetts, where I visited the Caterham dealer Sevens and Elans.
Shortly afterward I bought a Caterham Seven 1700 Super Sprint kit and had it shipped to Hawaii where I built it in my garage.
We moved to CA and it was shipped and I have it to this day.
It started life as a full kit, with a hood and bows (never installed) windshield wipers, headlights, full fenders, and two seats.
Over the years it was stripped of all these parts, a race engine built, and is now a track day car still licensed for the street.
I have had it 32 years, I am 75 years old and have no plans on selling it.”
