Back in early 2021 the kit car and classic replica worlds by a ruling of the lower court in Sweden.
Does anyone remember the Swedish guy who was taken to court by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in 2021 and who faced having to:
. destroy his Jaguar C-Type replica
and
. have to pay £450k in costs?
Karl Magnusson had set out to build his own Jaguar C-Type replica but was stopped in his tracks by legal action from Jaguar Land Rover, who had initially given positive feedback on his work.
The original story and subsequent appeal to the high court was shared thousands of times on social media, but for the first time on video, Karl sits down with 7Spot to tell the story in his own words.
A lifelong Jaguar enthusiast, Karl started his C-Type project back in 2009.
As there had been several hundred replicas built over the years by companies such as Lynx, Realm and Nostalgia he didn't foresee any issues.
Having completed the CAD element of the project the Magnussons even approached Jaguar for collaboration and were welcomed with open arms, only for their stance to change completely in 2018 by starting legal proceedings against them.

The subsequent backlash towards JLR following the initial ruling, and the outpouring of support for the Magnussons by the classic and replica community are just two of the elements of this incredible story.
